Barzakh is a cultural space situated in the Hamra district of Beirut, right above what used to be the Horseshoe café, an iconic meeting place for artists and writers in Beirut’s 60s and 70s. The space is 300m2 and houses a library of over 30,000 books, magazines, publications in Arabic, English and French. The space is divided between a bookshop and a library that hosts an archive of rare publications and magazines spanning the last 50 years and open to members. The topics cover a wide range of the cultural and creative spectrum in the Arab region and will include curated selections from literature, history music, art, design, philosophy, and poetry. In addition, the space offers a coffee and drinks bar as well as a café serving handmade daily dishes, cakes and sweets. The space also hosts almost daily programming of film screenings, poetry readings, talks, and concerts.
